Nehemiah lived in a dark time for Israel. It was the mid 400s b.c. and the Jewish people were well over 100 years living in captivity, first among the Babylonians and now among the Persian empire. Nehemiah’s heart was broken for his people and their homeland. Nehemiah is the story of the Jewish people beginning to return to the holy land which required a spiritual revival as well physical rebuilding. Not all made the journey, but a faithful remnant joined those that survived the invasion of 586 b.c. The book of Nehemiah is a story of spiritual vision, bravery, hard work, danger and blessing.
